Pen-Y-Wern is situated 5 miles from Aberystwyth, the principal town of Mid Wales, from where a days outing in any direction will provide scenic drives to many beauty spots. These include but not limited to: Devil's Bridge, Aberaeron, Borth & Ynyslas, Bwlch Nant yr Arian, New Quay and Cardigan Bay, Penbryn, Aberdyfi, Barmouth, Porthmadog. For a full day out you have the National Parks of Snowdonia and Brecon Beacons and many slightly lesser known but still breathtakingly beautiful lakes, reservoirs and forests that Wales is renowned for.
For the more energetic, there are numerous walks and cycle trails in the vicinity as well as further afield. For the angler, there is the opportunity for sea, lake and river fishing. For a relaxing day there are numerous sandy beaches to pick from. Other attractions at your doorstep include: narrow gauge railways, metal and slate mines, stately homes, castles, woollen mills and craft centres as well as picturesque towns and villages, all waiting to be explored. Couple this with weekly/fortnightly markets, delicious locally sourced food and trendy cafes/pubs & restaurants, there is surely something for everyone.
